Webinar : eTIMS Compliance and Implementation with Taxwise Africa Consulting LLP

Highlights from our eTIMS Compliance webinar with Taxwise Africa on preparing for Kenya’s fully digital tax environment.

Yesterday, the French Chamber of Commerce in Kenya, in partnership with its member Taxwise Africa Consulting LLP, successfully hosted a webinar dedicated to eTIMS Compliance and Implementation, bringing together business leaders and finance professionals to better understand Kenya’s rapidly evolving digital tax environment.

The session provided a comprehensive overview of the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS), introduced by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to enable real-time invoice transmission, strengthen compliance, and improve transparency in tax reporting.

Participants explored the evolution from traditional Electronic Tax Registers to TIMS and now to the fully software-based eTIMS platform launched under the Finance Act framework to curb fraud and simplify reporting obligations.

The speakers detailed :

  • Who must comply : essentially all persons carrying on business in Kenya, whether VAT-registered or not, including companies, professionals, rental income earners, and informal sector businesses.

  • Available onboarding solutions, ranging from web and USSD versions for small taxpayers to full system-to-system ERP integrations for larger organizations.

  • Mandatory obligations, including registration, issuance of electronic invoices, real-time transmission, supplier verification, and proper reconciliation.

  • Exemptions and statutory exclusions for certain transactions such as salaries, imports, interest, and some financial services.

The discussion also highlighted the risks of non-compliance, including disallowed expenses, financial penalties, audit exposure, and possible operational disruption affecting tax compliance certification.

Practical guidance focused on how businesses can prepare for upcoming validation requirements by confirming onboarding, cleaning supplier databases, strengthening reconciliations, and embedding eTIMS processes into daily operations.

This session reflected Taxwise Africa’s advisory approach, which combines deep regional expertise with practical, commercially focused tax and regulatory guidance across East Africa.

The Chamber warmly thanks the Taxwise team and all participants for their engagement in this highly practical session designed to help companies anticipate compliance challenges and operate confidently within Kenya’s fully digital tax framework.
