Last week, we brought together students, professionals and global partners for Votre passeport pour l’emploi , a vibrant event hosted at Alliance Française Nairobi which focused on how speaking French can expand your career horizons across sectors and countries.
Key takeaways from the session included:
Alliance Française Nairobi: Showcased how language skills, especially French, give you a competitive edge in the job market. Leonard Kimotho also discussed language certifications (TCF, TEF, DFP) that enhance both academic and professional mobility.
Canadian High Commission in Kenya: Stressed the value of bilingualism in government careers and Canadian immigration. Opportunities exist nationwide through the PDTE, PMI and International Experience Canada programs. The presenter, Janet Chan covered the processes followed on becoming a permanent resident. She also stressed on the importance of being vigilant to avoid falling into victim to fraud.
International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC: Shared career paths in humanitarian work. English is required, but French is a major asset, especially in Francophone conflict zones. Flexibility and international mobility are key.
Novotel Nairobi Westlands: Gave an inside look at working with a global French hospitality brand . The team at Novotel also engaged the audience in a fun and insightful Q&A session.
Campus France Kenya : Presented opportunities to study in France – from Bachelor’s to PhD – in both English and French. The presentation also covered scholarships like Erasmus Mundus, Eiffel Excellence, Sciences Po and more. Students learned about application processes, support services and post-study options including residence permits and alumni networks.
