French Week 2023 Recap

The French Chamber of Commerce launched French Week Nairobi 2023!

The week was filled with insightful discussions and opportunities to strengthen the relationship between France and Kenya. With an attendance of over 600+ participants hailing from various sectors, our event became a vibrant convergence of ideas, expertise, and innovation. It was inspiring to witness professionals from different industries engaging in meaningful discussions, fostering partnerships, and contributing to the overall success of our event.

Below is a recap of our insightful 5-day #FrenchWeek journey:

• Day 1 of our French Week was launched by H.E. Governor Johnson Sakaja highlighting ties between Kenya and France. Mr. Lionel Fabre, Deputy Head of Mission, French Embassy, commended the efforts of H.E Johnson Sakaja in fortifying the ties. The panel discussions focused on urban transport and e-mobility issues, urging that incentives and policies from the government be aligned with the needs of the private sector in order for e-mobility to develop in a large scale.

• Day 2 focused on agriculture, featuring Hon. Jonathan Mueke urging investment in Kenyan market. Insightful panels discussed food security and agri-food value chains. Putting farmers first and adding value to agribusiness were some of the factors mentioned in order to enhance food security, as well as provision of more sustainable solutions and funding for agribusiness and agroprocessing.

• Day 3 spotlighted Mamy Eyewear a French startup operating in Kenya, promoting quality eyewear with a positive impact. We also had a Hackathon on innovation and competition on Agriculture and Technology, organized by French Tech Nairobi whereby High school students participated in a Hackathon on Innovation to address agricultural challenges.

• Day 4 delved into investment opportunities in Kenya, with H.E. Arnaud Suquet, Ambassador of France to Kenya and Stephen Odua emphasizing Kenya's attractiveness to investors. Panels shared their experiences, and discussed the attractiveness of the business environment in Kenya, as well as winning investment strategies and key sectors of Interest for French investors.

• Day 5 closed with impactful CSR and human capital development discussions. Key players shared insights on various CSR projects. A panel discussion emphasized the importance of investing in human capital, by employers being intentional, providing well-structured mentorship, offering a safe attractive space and shaping a positive environment and culture.
