Energy Committee 2025 with Bowmans Law Kenya and EDF Kenya
On Thursday, June 12th, we hosted a timely Energy Committee session in partnership with Bowmans Kenya and EDF, setting the stage for deeper collaboration and investment in Kenya’s evolving energy landscape ahead of the upcoming Africa Energy Summit.
The Committee opened with welcome remarks from Othmane CHAOUI, President of FCCK, who reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to fostering meaningful public-private engagement in the sector and presented the Committee’s mission.
Daniel Kiptoo B., Director General of Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority delivered a keynote outlining Kenya’s ambitious path toward 100% renewable energy by 2030, with emerging policies on:
E-mobility tariffs
Grid resilience and upgrade frameworks
Green energy guidelines
Innovative financing models for transmission infrastructure
Dennis Keya, Country Manager ,EDF, presented their strategic work to expand Kenya’s renewable capacity—highlighting rehabilitation of hydropower assets, grid support initiatives with KenGen, and investments aimed at reducing distribution losses.
This was followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Aleem Tharani, Head of Projects, Energy & Infrastructure at Bowmans which featured insights from George Aluru, CEO of Electricity Sector Association of Kenya (ESAK), Eric Mwangi, Advisor in the Office of the Climate Envoy and Dennis Keya, Country Manager, EDF.
Key takeaways from the Energy Committee included the need for utility-scale renewable projects, stronger local EPC capacity, and local-currency PPAs to support sector growth. Unlocking financing will depend on reforms in grid access, monetization models, and governance.
Aleem Tharani concluded the session by challenging stakeholders to think in solution-oriented, market-relevant terms, and to focus on reforms and innovations that match Kenya’s current and future energy demands.
The evening ended with lively networking over drinks, generously hosted by Bowmans Kenya.
Thank you to all our partners, speakers, and guests for a high-impact discussion. Together, we’re shaping a resilient, investor-ready energy future for Kenya and beyond!
