Frugal Innovation in healthcare: Redefining Access with Eco friendly solutions
We were pleased to host an insightful webinar session in partnership with InViDiX exploring how frugal innovation is transforming healthcare access and advancing Africa’s health sovereignty, the ability of nations to protect the health of their people without excessive external dependence.
This session was led by Martin Thuo, Scientific Advisor, InViDiX & Professor, North Carolina State University and Alexandre Bloch 🌱, CEO InViDix.
With 95% of medicines and 99% of vaccines still imported, Africa’s healthcare systems remain fragile. Yet, innovators like Invidix are charting a new path , proving that sustainability, affordability and high-performance diagnostics can go hand in hand.
From paper-based, plastic-free rapid tests to locally driven production and eco-design, this model shows that doing, not just thinking, drives true resilience.
Key takeaways:
Frugal innovation = smart, sustainable advancement
Local production fosters autonomy and continuity of care
Eco-friendly design can be both impactful and scalable
This webinar was a powerful reminder that innovation tailored to local realities is not just possible, it is the future of healthcare in Africa.
We are grateful to Martin and Alex for their enlightening insights and to everyone who joined the session.
