Webinar : Biodiversity & Business Resilience: Understanding Your Company's Dependencies, Risks and Opportunities with ACK International

How businesses can identify their dependence on nature, anticipate biodiversity-related risks and strengthen long-term resilience.
We recently hosted a webinar on “Biodiversity & Business Resilience: Understanding Your Company’s Dependencies, Risks and Opportunities”, organised in partnership with ACK International.
Led by Marta Morin-Kasprzyk, Programme Manager and Thematic Expert at ACK International, the session explored why biodiversity is becoming an increasingly important strategic issue for businesses.
Kenya is home to approximately 25,000 animal species and 7,000 plant species, making it one of Africa’s richest countries in terms of biodiversity. However, ecosystems remain under pressure from habitat loss, climate change, agricultural expansion, pollution and the overexploitation of natural resources.
The discussion highlighted that businesses both impact biodiversity and depend on it through essential ecosystem services such as water availability, fertile soils, pollination, climate regulation, natural landscapes and healthy marine environments. Biodiversity loss can therefore create significant operational, financial and reputational risks, including supply-chain disruption, resource scarcity, higher costs and reduced business resilience.
Marta also introduced ACK International’s Impact and Dependency Assessment methodology, which helps companies identify their most significant biodiversity-related pressures and dependencies, develop relevant indicators and translate their findings into practical actions.
Through tourism and agriculture case studies, participants saw how companies can assess risks such as coral bleaching, water scarcity, soil degradation, pollution and reduced pollination services, while identifying opportunities linked to mitigation, restoration, ESG reporting and sustainable finance.
The key takeaway was clear: understanding how a company depends on nature is a critical first step towards managing risk, protecting long-term value and strengthening business resilience.
We warmly thank ACK International, Marta Morin-Kasprzyk, and all participants for contributing to this timely and insightful session.
