East Africa Business Forum 2021: Doing business in Rwanda

In the backdrop of the East Africa Business Forum 2021, we held a session on Doing business in Rwanda'. The session was led by H.E. Antoine ANFRE, Ambassador, France to Rwanda; Adelin KAJANGWE, Investment Marketing Analyst, Rwanda Development Board and Bernard BINAGWAHO, Africa & Middle-East Director, Tactis.

Some takeaways from the session:

  • Rwanda has a population size of 12.4 million that largely composes of young people (~70% of the population is under 30)
  • The country's GDP per capita is USD 816
  • Rwanda is the 6th fastest growing economy in Africa with a growth rate of 7.5% p.a. since 2007 and the 5th
  • safest country to walk at night worldwide
  • Rwanda leads the East African Community in terms of network readiness with a 95% 4G LTE network coverage in the country
  • To encourage investors, Rwanda extends a 7 year Corporate income tax (CIT) holiday for investors investing more than $50M in the country. The country also features a one stop center for investors with a dedicated investment acceleration and aftercare team
  • A wide range of investment opportunities exist in Rwanda's economic sectors. The specific sectors include: housing/real estate, energy/water, infrastructure, manufacturing, tourism, BPO and ICT as well as agriculture and agro processing
