CFO Committee : Sustainability Implementation and Reporting

A timely exchange where CFOs discussed sustainability reporting, ESG challenges, and tax transparency shaping the future of business in Kenya.
We recently held a new session of our CFO Committee, hosted by PwC Kenya, bringing together finance leaders from our business community for an insightful discussion on sustainability reporting, ESG implementation, and tax transparency.
The session explored how sustainability is becoming a strategic priority for companies, with CFOs increasingly expected to connect financial and non-financial performance. Speakers highlighted the importance of understanding how topics such as climate, talent, governance, technology, and tax can impact long-term value creation.
A key focus of the discussion was the practical implementation of sustainability reporting. Participants exchanged on the challenges of data collection, internal governance, reporting boundaries, and materiality assessment. The conversation also addressed upcoming reporting requirements, including the adoption of IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, and the need for companies to prepare early through clear processes and reliable data systems.
The session also examined the growing role of tax transparency within the sustainability agenda. Strong tax governance and credible reporting can help companies strengthen trust with regulators, investors, and the wider public.
